CMD Systems Medicine
A discipline for people who fall between the specialties.
Each specialty examines its own organ and finds nothing there. CMD Systems Medicine looks at what lies in between: at the interplay. And it does so in a fixed order, so that the beginning is a measurement and not an assumption.
Why this discipline exists at all
Medicine is divided into specialties, and for good reason: specialisation has made it strong. For most illnesses that is the right order.
For some people it is the wrong one. Anyone who has headaches and tinnitus and neck complaints and poor sleep is examined four times and is told four times that there is nothing to find in that specialty. All four answers are correct. The question was divided up wrongly.
CMD Systems Medicine is the attempt to lift this division at one point where it pays off: at the jaw system. Not because everything comes from there, but because it is connected to all four areas, and because it is possible there to measure and intervene without destroying anything.
Think, measure, regulate
Three steps, always in this order. Anyone who swaps them is treating an assumption.
CMD Systems Medicine
The body is not a kit of separate parts but a system that constantly readjusts itself. Complaints appear where compensation is no longer enough, not where the disorder lies.
CMD System Check
Bite position, muscle activity, movement and posture are measured, not estimated. In two stages with an interim evaluation, so that nobody pays for measurements that no longer add anything.
CMD System Therapy
A system that has lost its rhythm is guided back in small, controlled steps. With removable appliances; nothing is altered on healthy tooth structure.
One family of terms, three steps. This is not cosmetic wording: anyone who adopts the way of thinking but treats without measuring is practising systems medicine without a system.
What this discipline is not
Not a substitute
- red flags and unclear findings belong in a specialist work-up, before any functional diagnostics
- we do not call into question any diagnosis made by another specialty
- physiotherapy, ENT, neurology and orthopaedics remain responsible; we work with them, not against them
Not alternative medicine
- we measure with instruments and calculate with numbers
- we place ourselves within the recognised framework: CMD is considered multifactorial and biopsychosocial, and first-line treatment is conservative and non-invasive
- where we go beyond the published evidence, we say so
And because it belongs here: a new discipline is not yet a recognised discipline. CMD Systems Medicine is not a specialist title held by any professional society. It describes how we work here, and it claims no title that does not exist.
What is established and what is not
There is a sound basis for the connection between the jaw system and the head, face and neck; treating the neck as well is professional standard. For the link to the spine, pelvis and foot posture the data are inconsistent, and the same goes for ear complaints. What we say about these is our clinical observation and not a proven cause.
If you want to know more: the pages for professionals set out for each specialty what has been demonstrated by measurement, with which figures, and where the evidence ends. These pages are written for colleagues, but nobody is stopping you from reading them.
