For professionals & referrers

Do you have patients with chronic pain for which no explanation can be found?

Do you care for patients with unclear, treatment-resistant symptoms in which the jaw system could play a part? This is our specialty – and we see ourselves as a complement to your work, not as competition.

  • 01FocusedCMD only, no general dentistry. This lets us devote time and measurement technology to a single condition.
  • 02Objectively measuredWe rely on evidence-based diagnostics: function is measured objectively, not merely presumed clinically – using EMG, bite forces, movement analysis, posture, manual structural analysis.
  • 03Tooth-preservingInitial therapy is exclusively reversible, using removable appliances. Healthy tooth structure is left untouched.

Fifteen specialties

Where your specialty meets the jaw system

Each specialty has its own page. Each states what is supported by measurement, where the data end and when a referral is worthwhile. Meant as a complement to your work, not as a judgement.

How we handle the evidence

We position ourselves within the accepted framework: CMD is considered multifactorial and biopsychosocial, first-line treatment is conservative and non-invasive. That is exactly how we work.

Solid foundations

There are solid foundations for the connection between the jaw system and the head, face and cervical region; concomitant cervical treatment is the professional standard.

Inconsistent data

For the coupling with spinal, pelvic and foot statics and for otological symptoms, however, the data are inconsistent. Where a statement on the specialty pages reflects our clinical explanatory model rather than proven causality, it is stated there under “Where the evidence ends”. We would rather flag this ourselves than leave it for you to check.

And something that goes without saying, but we write it down anyway: With red flags and unclear findings, specialist work-up comes before any functional diagnostics. The CMD perspective complements, it does not replace – we do not question any of your diagnoses or disparage any method.

Clear division of roles

We treat only CMD-related functional disorders – no general dentistry and no competing orthodontics. Your patients remain yours; we take on the functional part and refer back.

What your patients can expect

CMD Systems Check & CMD Systems Therapy

  1. Step 1Stage 1CMD Systems Check
  2. Step 2Interim evaluationContinue only if it adds something
  3. Step 3Stage 2In-depth measurement
  4. Step 4Treatment planCMD Systems Therapy

Our CMD Systems Check runs in two stages including an interim evaluation. We record teeth, masticatory muscles, posture and spine using purely objective measurements (such as EMG muscle measurement as the “ECG of the jaw”). The detailed diagnostic procedures include, among others, system and structural analyses of the craniomandibular and cervical systems. The jaw system remains the point of intervention throughout; we record posture and statics to see what arrives there. The treatment plan is based on this.

Therapeutically, we work with removable neuromuscular repositioning in line with CMD Systems Medicine, with psychological support. The process in detail →

  • Digital 3D scan
  • EMG muscle measurement
  • Electronic bite registration
  • Spine measurement
  • Foot pressure measurement
  • Craniomandibular system analysis
  • Cervical system analysis
  • Manual structural analysis

How we work together

From referral back to you

  1. 01A short referral is enough (phone, email or letter)
  2. 02Structured findings and progress report back to you
  3. 03Interdisciplinary coordination with physiotherapy, osteopathy, ENT
  4. 04Clear referral back once regulation is complete
